As of September 30, 2012, LinkedIn had more than 187 million members in over 200 countries and territories. It’s a fabulous resource for learning about other people and organizations—as well as for your own promotion. There are also some
video features you should use to your advantage. Yes, LinkedIn offers video!
LinkedIn Videos on LinkedIn Company Pages
Follow us by clicking this button for a taste of what’s possible when you add dynamic content, including video, to a LinkedIn company page (even if you’re a nonprofit and don’t identify with the word “company,” LinkedIn uses that term for all organizations).
As you can see, although you can’t yet post video on your top page, you can post a video on your Products and Services page, or your Services page, and any sub page showing individual products or services.
It’s easy and free. The graphic at the right shows what came up for us when we took this simple route to add a testimonial video to our LinkedIn Products and Services page. Just add a YouTube URL.
LinkedIn Is a Great Place for Video Content
If your organization is using LinkedIn mainly as more boring and static version of your company website, we also want to point out that you’re neglecting a key source of engagement where you can run a feed just like on Twitter or Facebook that includes links to videos.
We’ve sought to create a dynamic LinkedIn page for MiniMatters. Here’s that “Follow” button again; click here and you’ll always get links to our blog and other important updates.
LinkedIn is really well suited to attaching a variety of types of content. We’ve placed a testimonial video on our main Products and Services page, and also included videos on some of our services pages—Multi-Video Marketing and Production Packages, Conference & Event Promotion Videos, Gala Videos & Event Videos, Testimonial Videos, Fundraising Videos, Planned Giving Videos, Campaign and Advocacy Videos, and Homepage Videos.
You may also be wondering about videos on the individual profile pages of LinkedIn. It is possible to do, but currently more cumbersome than on company pages. In addition to using links to video in your feed, some options for video in your profile are:
- Use the free LinkedIn application Behance. (Edit Profile > Applications >Add Application). It’s made to add a visual portfolio of works to your profile that looks sophisticated and can support videos. It’s tailored for creative design though, so it may not be for everyone.
- Post the video in a Slideshare slideshow with the LinkedIn Slideshare app. This method requires a paid subscription to SlideShare, however.
In the meantime, it’s worth adding video to LinkedIn pages where you can. The power of a video to turn a typical, stock white page into an impressive and individual statement is invaluable. Whichever method you choose, adding video to your organization’s LinkedIn page can only benefit.
