This Customized Employment Video showcases an example of the successful, customized matching of an employer’s needs and the skills and abilities of an employee. MiniMatters produced this video for SEEC, a nonprofit agency on the cutting edge of development of customized employment for the people with disabilities whom they support. In the video, viewers can see and hear for themselves:

  • The multiple ways that the staff can communicate with one another, even though the employee is nonverbal – for example, through an iPad with specialized text-to-speech software, mobile phones, and email
  • How employing a person with disabilities can be a positive and mutually beneficial experience
  • The perspectives of the various people involved in this customized employment situation
  • Key steps and points one needs to consider in creating a job through customized employment

Videos like this can help people visualize how a concept or method (in this case, customized employment) looks and feels in practice and show that it can be done and work well. It is a useful tool for communicating with the broader society as well as staff within SEEC working or planning to work in this area.

MiniMatters involved two people who SEEC supports in the production of this video – one in production and editing and the other in graphical animation. We take special care in working with all on-camera talent.

Other examples of our work involving employment of people with disabilities are this video about the AbiliIT program at Melwood and the picture-in-picture part of this Disability Employment Awareness video with an American Sign Language interpreter. This was one of several videos in the “Working Works” PSAs – What Can YOU Do campaign. Check out our ASL Video Services page to learn more about our ASL video work.
