An endowed professorship donor video can provide effective marketing and stewardship at the same time.
The University of Maryland School of Dentistry had a donor couple eager to tell their story in video and make a pitch for other alumni to donate. Understandably, the University of Maryland Baltimore Foundation responded quickly to this opportunity and invited a team from MiniMatters to the school to film.
To capture appropriate footage as well as make the day special, School of Dentistry staff arranged for the donors to observe a professor teaching dental students in the school’s new dental teaching lab. During this session, the donors and students were able exchange experiences and discuss how the school and its facilities have changed and modernized. Some of this meaningful footage is a core part of the video.
Endowed professorship donor videos serve dual purposes
A donor story filming day is an occasion for:
- Stewardship, in which donors come into the institution, meet high-level school officials, reminisce about their ties, talk to the next generation and other staff, and generally have a meaningful experience
- Gathering interviews and additional “b-roll” footage of donors on campus to produce tangible marketing products rich with emotional content. This type of content appeals strongly to alumni peers.
If you are interested in donor story videos, you can explore MiniMatters’ portfolio for other UMB donor stories, including this docent donor video and this alumni giving video. Videos for other universities and institutions include this donor couple’s story, this “gift in honor of” video, and this planned giving donor story.
Tip: To stretch your budget, schedule filming for two videos on the same day. MiniMatters filmed this video plus a different donor story for another graduate school on the same day.
