Videos can help expand the number of doctors and other health professionals in a variety of medical fields, including in infectious diseases.
As social determinants of health come to the forefront of public health, the Infectious Diseases Society of American (IDSA) Foundation is highlighting the outstanding work of Black infectious diseases doctors. The COVID-19 Pandemic has taken a tremendous toll on communities of color. By having physicians of color share their commitment to reducing the burdens of infectious diseases, the Foundation is helping to raise awareness about the unequal access to healthcare that many communities of color face. Videos like this one can also help to draw more people of color to the medical community and can be shared during Black History Month and throughout the year.
MiniMatters has worked with the IDSA Foundation to record this and other compelling first-hand stories of Black ID physicians and make these videos available both to the public at large and the infectious diseases professional community.
